Solefald - Norrønasongen-Kosmopolis Nord album cover

Back to the 90's, when your Ol' Big Daddy here was only 20-25 years old, Norway started to show legions of very good bands, releasing extremely good albums, and some helped to define many Metal styles, as "The Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", "In the Nightside Eclipse" and "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant". As soon as the things were calming down there, a lot of experimental bands were arising as well, and some strong names went through more avant-garde Metal approach. And SOLEFALD is one of the strongest names of Avant-garde Black Metal on those frozen lands, and their new EP, "Norrønasongen - Kosmopolis Nord" is a proof of what my words mean.

Yes, they still walked a step ahead on their music, some times more introspective and Progressive, sometimes a bit rawer, but always going into an even more experimental way of making their musical work. They seem to have no limits in creativity, and it's excellent to us all to hear such good album, with very good vocals (even with some female vocals), good guitar riffs, rhythmic kitchen doing a fine job, excellent incursions of synthetizers and other instruments, with many guest musicians giving a hand to turn "Norrønasongen - Kosmopolis Nord" an excellent album.

The sound production is a bit raw than needed, but this sounds like a part of their musical work. But do not worry: you can hear all instruments clearly on their music.

"Norrønaprogen" and "Norrøna: Ljodet Som Ljoma" are very great songs, during more than 10 minutes each one, but always worked and full of variations that it seems short to us. "Det Siste Landskap (An Icelandic Odyssey Part IV)" is a bit rawer and aggressive (in terms of guitar riffs), very good vocal duets, and with some Industrial touches. "Norskdom" is a short Folk-like song, introspective and warm. And "Songen: Vargen" is another masterpiece of pure experimentalism and introspection.

Excellent again!
