It seems as if every Power Metal band seems to focus their music around a very specific concept which seems to be knights, wizards and the medieval period in general. Others branch out and use other parts of history for their music and some take the medieval theme and add a fantasy type concept style to the music. BREITENHOLD are just such a band and this year they released their debut album "Secret Worlds" on Stormspell Records.

Unfortunately I couldn't find much information on the band so I'll just skip straight to the music review part. Upon first listens, it seems to have all the ingredients needed for a Power Metal album as it sounds very heavy and clear in the music department. Also, the music is constant and continuous as if the band had written one big song and broke it down into separate tracks as the moment one ends, it transitions into the next song.

Sometimes that can pay off as a constant flow of music is often a good thing especially if it sounds good which this does in the music as it's very heavy with fast guitars and fast paced rhythm sections in places. The only thing that may put the listener off at times is the vocals. They don't ruin the music but I think that given a bit of work and a bit of polishing, they could be better but they're not bad for what they are.

Back to the music now and after doing a bit of research, it seems to have taken inspiration from all of the Power Metal you got in the 1980's. I don't know what the music was like back then as I was born in the 1990's so I can't really say if it sounds like a 1980's Power Metal album or not. What I do like about this album is the fact that the music is what you would expect from a Metal band as it's heavy, fast and in places melodic which for something like this is very good.

Verdict time now and you know, listening to this reminds me of something similar I reviewed a while ago from a band called PROJECT TERROR and it sounds just like that album only the production is a little bit better as the music is a bit more heavier with a bit more clarity but just like the PROJECT TERROR album, the vocals do need a bit of work and a bit of polishing as it does have potential but it just needs a bit of fine tuning.
