Aeron's Wake

In the deep depths of Windsor, Ontario four Folk Metal warriors were born; they were congenital to bring beautiful music into our midst, they are AERON'S WAKE and they have brought forward their self-titled EP.
They proudly describe themselves as an Instrumental Celtic Metal band and from the music created in their EP I can certainly see why they would define their music in that way.
The journey begins with "Battlecry" where "Lord Of The Rings" and "The Hobbit" spring to mind as the violin is played grandly by Quinn Strahl, this is accompanied very triumphantly from the thunderous drums and sweeping guitar work. This being the first track it gives us all the elements of what you can expect in Folk Metal.
As the EP progresses however I am treated to similar sounding tunes that seem to all blur together in my mind; as great as the tracks are, none of them really stand out in my opinion. As much as I love Folk Metal and Celtic Music I would like to hear more of variety of different tunes however saying this I do think this EP gives us a great opportunity to hear what AERON'S WAKE have to offer as a band; which is beautiful music with talented musicians.
Having listened to this EP three times I am still undecided whether I like it or not. Of course they have most of the elements of Folk Metal spot on and I like the unique approach of fronting with a violin. On the other hand I was disappointed when I didn't hear vocals and treated to the same composure of music throughout but it's a great sound overall.
So my overall verdict about this EP is that it leaves me feeling a bit lost for the time being but it also feels me with hope that they can produce something better.
