Empress AD - Still Life Moving Fast album cover

I assume many of you will be reading album reviews to find albums to get hyped about before their official release, and fortunately, I have been given the chance to hear the material that the lads from EMPRESS AD have created. This new Progressive band (recently signed to Roadrunner Records) is certainly going to be a band to watch out for in the future for sure, this album is brilliant.

It's not often that you find a band where the vocalist does both clean and harsh vocals, but Ollie Loring's range is outstanding. Not only are his cleans crisp, clean and soothing to listen to, his screams are passion filled and sound slightly like the lows of PERIPHERY'S Spencer Sotelo, a man with a great and powerful voice. The softer sections of the albums are graced with this magnificent voice to lull you to an eternal slumber, whilst the more epic and heavy parts are complimented with the screams of someone who has clearly put all his effort into training his voice for this record, definitely a highlight of this album.

As I mentioned, there are heavy aspects to many of the songs on this record, and if I had to use on word to describe them, it would be epic. Unwin has done a brilliant job on conducting the tempo of the songs, and utilising his kit in such a way that never leaves you disappointed with what you're hearing; a perfect example that shows how flashy fills isn't the be all and end all to show off your musical talent.

The last thing I would like to comment on is the guitar work of the Loring brothers and Tom Meadon. Whether the song becomes hectic, or switches to a sweet sounding section, you can guarantee that these three men will produce something different and interesting each time. The song I would say you had to listen to is "Consumed", as this is a fine example of how they can show their Progressive style with both softer and heavier parts.

This is one to pick up and listen to, and I can imagine that their live performances will be incredible. Watch out for this one, I'm telling you, this is some good shit!
