Shrine To The Trident Throne
Imperial Triumphant
Wow, what my ears are listening???
North American quartet IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT, from New York, really astonishes us all in this way, and the compilation "Shrine to the Trident Throne" is something wonderful, no doubt!
They do a totally avant-garde Black Metal, with an unconventional technique, seeming pretty jazzistic many times, but always heavy and harsh, and in some moments, extremely morbid and darkened. And they run away from the North American Black Metal molds, having no aspect of Thrash Metal in their music. Hear it to have an idea of what you Ol' Daddy here is saying.
Harsh and sometimes guttural voices, hispid and cold riffs, technical and heavy bass and drums works (from where the greater part of the technical approach comes), and songs extremely different from what we are used to hear from Black Metal. It's something new!
The album is a collection of their earlier and independent times, so we have a sound quality sometimes very good, and sometimes a bit raw, but we can understand clearly what they're playing all the time, so don't worry.
Eight extremely tasteful songs compose the album, but the higher points are the morbid "Hierophant", the aggressive and harsh "Manifesto" (full of great technical moments from drums and bass), the morbid and "Crushing the Idol" (full of tempo changes, great solos and riffs, along with fine vocals), the technical and oppressive "Devs Est Machina", and the experimental and chaotic "Sodom".
Fine, extremely fine, so if you want chaos in form of music, you'll find here!
