The Chant - New Haven album cover

Now Finland have been known for distributing gems in terms of Rock and Metal bands; for example NIGHTWISH, TURISAS, SONATA ARCTICA, the list goes on. Now a new gem has been created in the form of Atmospheric Rock piece THE CHANT who provides us with a Finnish rival to JIMMY EAT WORLD.

Their latest instalment "New Haven" provides a summer sound track with their haunting melodies that whisked you away to an alternate reality as the music left you feeling mellow and reflective. Their sound reminded me of British Rock band THE DISTORTING GLASS; particularly in the vocal work, the smooth guitar riffs and their genuinely atmospheric vibe.

Their album can quite easily fit in on a film soundtrack; particularly an action or fantasy film with a lot of mysterious things happening right in front of your eyes or in this case your imagination. I believe it may be to do with how well the songs fit together; there aren't significant changes within the music but enough to know it's a different song.

Overall this album is very inviting yet quite strange. It's different to what I have heard before and it will provide the perfect soundtrack to your summer.
