FROM ATHENS WE FLED is an unsigned hardcore Metal Core/Death Metal band from Phoenix, Arizona. There is nothing new in their self-titled album here as it was claimed for me folks, just the same old screaming and growling noise! I hate to be the one to review this style of music, I have never been a fan of Metal Core/Death Metal! But never mind the vocals, onto the music quality itself.

Their new self-titled album, which is their second release to date has a few sections that have a very short melodic quality to them, those parts did not sound bad at all, I was reviewing the music here and my girlfriend said, wow I could get into this, a few seconds later the song jumped to pure growling and muffled guitars that had no appeal to either of us!

Every song had the same feel to them, not one song stood out as unique to me, the songs will either start out smooth with a fast transition into white noise, or they will start out with white noise with a few seconds of smooth sounding actual quality riffs!

 I myself as not only a writer, but as a promoter feel that this genre is one of very few that will never catch on to the masses. It is to bad because all these band members are really good people that are just trying to go their own way with what they know! I get more Death Metal bands asking for promotion than any other genre of music from bands. It is because they are struggling to actually (not) fit in, and by way of doing so leads them to very few outlets for their style of music, which in turn lessens the effect of gaining fans, which then leads to very little album sales, sad but true guys!

I am not going to bash these guys any further, I feel terrible enough as it is, I am sorry to say that this new release from FROM ATHENS WE FLED gets a very low 4/5, there were a few positives but they were way to short lived! When a band tries so hard to be different, when they do not want to fit in, they will be different and not fit in, unless the quality of the music shines, which Death Metal usually does not! If a band wants to create hardcore metal just take a listen to Slayer and learn how it is done guys!!!
