Discipline X - Wasted In Hollywood album cover

Sometimes it's great to have some no frills, straight to the point crossover Thrash stuff, and Finland's DISCIPLINE X brings that to the table and then some with their new album "Wasted In Hollywood", with plenty of short songs full of bite and attitude.

Opener "Walk To The Morgue" sets the mood nicely with some aggressive guitars and pounding drums, and some nice aggressive vocals that definitely have that Finnish sound about them, with a nice amount of grit too. The band ploughs through its short 31 minute runtime, with songs like "Bleeding Heart Blues" (the longest song at 4:03 minutes) with a bit more of a melodic feel and some nice dynamics making it one of my highlight tracks, really capturing the feel of stuff like SUICIDAL TENDENCIES with a bit more polish to it. This carries on through to tracks like "Bukowski" which captures a real old school feel to the riffs despite a very short runtime, and "I Want Your Blood" a song that has a really cool bass intro before the band crashes in. All in all it's a very bludgeoning sound, full of meaty riffs and angry vocals really, barring the song "T.A.B" which is an almost haunting track full of clean guitars and bluesy soloing.

The album finishes up with "Whoring Hollywood", which is back to the manic sound the band seems to have established with this album, with plenty of awesome riffs to finish up the album in a nice way, lots of speedy drums and cool guitar harmonies meet with some well layered vocals here.

The production is pretty good here, maybe too polished for the crossover genre, everything is quite clear and audible throughout and it doesn't necessarily suffer from it but it doesn't quite feel "underground" enough for that sort of thing; it would be cool to see the band evolve their songwriting and style in a more Heavy Metal vein if this is how they want their production done perhaps.

Overall, a very solid album, great playing throughout and plenty of cool moments throughout, definitely worth a listen for fans of the style.
