Slough Feg - Digital Resistance album cover

Maybe we have gone used to it, possibly a higher sense of security that made us blind to what has been going on. Though most of us can pass the day without social networks, needless to say that Internet, essentially most of us truly can't survive without the current technological means. Predictions like "Killing Technology" are a thing of the past in my bill, as mankind became dependent, like on drugs and meds, on the existence of technological utilities to live its life. However, society has grown to become different with the power it holds, I don't really believe that evolution made us monstrous, now that we are called super humans, yet worldwide there is a feeling that something was lost in the shadows of advancement, maybe morality is slowly being buried without us noticing. Mike Scalzi and his crew of SLOUGH FEG, acted weirdly again, maneuvering within classic Metal, and produced a kind of futuristic message. However, it isn't that far and even the present might be a part of what was laid in to their story bestowed within "Digital Resistance", via Metal Blade Records. Putting a grey blanket over the concept, with various of directions that might inspire the listener to think and wonder, SLOUGH FEG emerged after four years with cryptic compositions drenched in solid gold.

Throughout my early history with SLOUGH FEG, back when they were called the THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG, I have always noticed that strong relations between Mike Scalzi, the main songwriter and founder of the group, and British Metal, especially the mesmerizing period of the late 70's till the early 80's. With a crosshair on Progressive notations that would remind some of the brightest minds of the 70's, yet without yanks of psychedelia, even with the guy's musical awkwardness, especially the lyricism. "Apr Rising" was actually the first SLOUGH FEG that I listened to and reviewed, and I found a true natured 00's NWOBHM in all of its glory. When I headed back to the early THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG albums, I founded that it was deeply rooted right from the start. Cutting short of too much blathering about the past, but on the present and the release before you, SLOUGH FEG retained those same merits but within "Digital Resistance" kept pushing forward with their headway to become much unique than previously.

Scalzi has never been that ultimate Heavy Metal / Hard Rock singer, especially if you compare him to early 80's decade's rising stars, however, his soothing, sometimes raspy soaring, voice and storytelling techniques, made him a preacher to be reckoned with and to follow, release after release. As the main songwriter on this album, as largely in the past, like the rapid advancement of technology, he went out shooting in every direction, assembling the same madcap melodic NWOBHM and late 70's Rock lines and riffery, yet with a series of multifarious and perceptive rhythms, lurking out of the traditional sagacity, that fashioned a kind of experience that made me go over it time after time just to observe if I missed something. SLOUGH FEG has never been overly accessible in their music, thus not achieving mega hits, as their songs weren't founded to perform that duty in the first place. Sure that there are hooking jiffies, yet not always those portray the true class of the songs. Yep, this is one of those bands where the choruses don't always matter. In fact, what mainly drew me to the entire tracklist was the general atmosphere, vintage driven sound, the insightful riffery, electric and acoustic, and the breaking Harry Cantwell that amazed with his drumming skills, unlike your traditional Metal drummer, this guy has the kicks and ability to sustain this kind of musical bearing with finesse. Songs like the Western caustic sideshow of "Habeas Corpsus", melodic British harbinger "Curriculum Vitae" (worth sending those CVs), rampaging marching warrior at the dusk of day "Warrior's Dusk" and the "Digital Resistance", BLACK SABBATH meets IRON MAIDEN thrilling machine, showed me why SLOUGH FEG are a beacon of light for vintage Metal along with the progressive ends of Rock molted deep within a Metalized environment. Thus I proclaim Metal / Rock fans, this is a release for an immediate grab.
