I listened to the new EP "Gone To The Devil" by OCTOBER 31 and what can I say? After three albums, a live album and a compilation album released in 2008, OCTOBER 31 still sound the same. The band didn't really innovate or change their style that sits slightly on the Heavy / Thrash Metal genre, on the other hand there is the saying that if it is not broken don't fix it, so what do I have to complain about?
The self-titled opener, "Gone To The Devil" is quite good, it reminded me of EXODUS. The song has a good rhythm and good guitar riffs. Unfortunately, I cannot state the same for the lyrics, which are awkward and don't flow well. The added cover version for "Too Scared To Run", originally by the British melodic Rockers URIAH HEEP, short of imagination and uniqueness. It's hard not to compare it to the original version, As long as OCTOBER 31 decided not to give their own interpretation to this song and this version lacks in vocals and instrumental work.
To sum things up, "Gone To The Devil" provides a good listening experience. Even though the lyrics are far from being great, it gives an appetite to listen to the album itself when it comes out, preferably if you are drunk.
