Sorcery - Unholy Creations album cover

It's a CD that gave me a hard time to hear and to work, but it's easy to talk about it: it's just a compilation having Sweden's SORCERY demos "The Arrival" (from 1987), "Ancient Creation" (from 1988) and "Unholy Crusade" (from 1989), and some more material. It's cool, but only this.

It's in a double CD format, so, it's good to see the band's musical evolution in all these years on Metal scene, never opening hand of doing something they want to do, but always having a good quality.

It's just that old Death Metal from the 80's with some fine musical influences from Proto-Thrash Metal from the same era, so, you get a lot of fun if you're a fanatic for old school Metal, but even if you're not, it can be a lot interesting.

"The Arrival" tracks has a hopeless recording, very low in volume, but I can see that even on 1987, they got potential, and in "Ancient Creation" the things improve a little (besides it's still a painful work to listen a bad recording like this), but when hearing tracks from "Unholy Crusade", the quality is better than before, and I can really feel their energy and see a good technique, as well as some touches from old CELTIC FROST, DESTRUCTION, BATHORY and SODOM appear, and it's very good, especially when I talk about "Dragons of the Burning Twilight" (a more slower song, where some morbid keyboards appears and good vocals can be heard), and "Descends to the Ashes". And beyond this point, I can hear a more modern and powerful Death Metal (still with 80's influence) surging from our speakers, as we can hear in the very good "Maculated Life" (eleven minutes of pure destruction), the great "Insanity Arise" (great guitars!), but again the sound becomes really nasty. Obviously, the songs are good, but this recording damages their work severely.

So, all that is needed to say: it's a good compilation, indeed, but I'd prefer to hear the band's material... They really are a fine name, but this release serves more to their more fanatic fans...
