Norway is known to every Metalhead in the world for being the Mother Land of Second Wave of Black Metal, giving birth to names like MAYHEM, BURZUM, IMMORTAL, BURZUM and a lot of good bands, but some stayed deep into the underground, and deserve a better expression into Metal scene. The one of the most expressive names in these terms is the quartet GEHENNA, which after a hiatus of eight years with no studio album, comes back with "Unravel".

The music changed since they started, for there are little remnants from the times when they had keyboards in their music, like "Seen Through the Veils of Darkness" and "Malice", following the more aggressive and harsh approach we heard in "WW" (but not so aggressive, and more sinister than this one), with no keys and even with Dolgar only playing bass, leaving all vocal duties to Sanrabb.

The production is intensely raw, and even you hearing all the instruments clearly and the music is not damaged at all, they really bring back the old spirit of Norwegian Black Metal, be sure. The artwork is fine, a picture from the Dark Ages showing an evil spirit hunting a girl, or something like that.

"Unravel" is a piece of darkened hate, with only little times fast (in the way of the band, nothing so fast as bands like MARDUK or KRISIUN), but the greater part of time being more climatic and somber, but always with good riffs, harsh voices coming out from a cave, bass and drums thundering into our ears. It's truly a masterpiece in terms of Black Metal for sure.

Highlights: the slower and morbid "The Decision" (with great vocal duties and guitars), the fast "Unravel", the funeral made music "Nothing Deserves Worship" (bass and drums in good shape here, with great changes of tempos), the slow and extremely bitter "A Grave of Thoughts" (if you're a depressive person, do not hear it, or you'll try something stupid for sure), and "Death Enters".

Besides some can say they don't make a new kind of music, they're a great band, with nothing more to prove.
