Conquistadores - A Beira Da Loucura album cover

Some of the Old School Metal bands have a good point: they rescue some long forgotten ways of making Metal, and breathing some fresh air, they really can show a good work. Some others only try to lure themselves, by copying indiscriminately what was done many years in the past.

But the Brazilian quintet CONQUISTADORES (which means "Conquerors" in English) do a good work in their first album "À Beira da Loucura".

Nothing new at all, but this is the band's greater value: they bring back from the past the old Metal sound done in the past by Brazilian forefathers of Metal Like OVERDOSE (the vocals in some aspects reminds Bozó's), CENTÚRIAS, METALMORPHOSE, VODU, and many others like them. It's our Heavy Metal from the 80's coming back to life again, and it almost bring tear to this writer's eyes.

Good vocals (that could be better, but hope they'll improve in the future), strong and heavy guitar work (the very soul of the band, powerful in riffs and good melodies in solos), and the bass-drums rhythmic kitchen do a heavy work. But we must have in mind that their music's stronger characteristic is the unity, doing a music where it is most important than individual technique.

The sound production is good, done by Ciero at DaTribo Studio, in São Paulo, but besides the instruments sounding's heavy and clear, a enhanced sound could bring superior results. It's not bad or worse as some old school Metal bands really sounds, but could be better. Maybe a more modern production can bring good results.

The art work is pretty simple, but it's good in this brow-yellow-black palette, so, it can bring to header the right idea of their music.

The stronger songs of them: "Poder e Glória" (that begins with a very good bass work, before it gains weight and a pacing tempo, showing a good guitar work), the catching "À Beira da Loucura" (pay attention to the bass and drums), the very heavy "Lutar e Conquistar" (the vocals are too fine, as well as the guitars), and the fast and furious ones "Com Sangue se Paga" and "Marcha Metal".

CONQUISTADORES is a good revelation from Southern lands, and if they keep their personality with a more modern sound production, no one will be safe from their conquest.
