The Vein - Scouring The Wreckage Of Time album cover

Blending many Metal genres together is one of the most common features of the nowadays extreme metal scene, sometimes it's necessary if your ears are thirsty for some fresh ideas, and sometimes it's bad when the members haven't enough skills to combine many musical elements together in one plate, and here is the classic sound of doom metal that has been grown widely in the 80s are back, but stained with the old school Death Metal sound of the early 90s, creating a whole fresh and old sound together, welcome to the world of THE VEIN.

"Scouring The Wreckage Of Time" is the first compilation album for this Danish group, which contains two EPs. The antique sound waves of influences are embracing the primal sound of BLACK SABBATH (especially with Ozzy on vocals), and the old school Death Metal sound of MORBID ANGEL and AUTOPSY, with some breezes of Black Metal odors, especially the influences of DISSECTION. The whole environment is pretty sick, dark and heavy, making the essence of the band firm and ugly, yet interesting for all the fans of Death and Doom Metal.

The fans of the traditional Doom Metal will fall easily in love with this record, unless they hate the fabric of Death Metal riffs. the slow riffs and the diseased sound fit the classic dark style of the artwork very well, the blood red shades and the nightmarish art is exactly what this record is about. Inside this inhumane soundscapes, you can smell the toxic energy of the rhythms and how the bass slits the horizon of the sound perfectly, letting the monstrous drumming fills all the sound behind the guttural vocals, the tracks "Pale Dawn Rising" and "The Great Deception" will abbreviate the whole description.

If you're thinking of giving this album a fast listen, then you can forget about it, this record is intense and huge, every single sense in your body must take enough time to understand what's really going on in this nightmarish environment. I will be following the band and I hope the next records will have the same sick atmosphere.
