Ildjarn - Ildjarn (Reissue) album cover

From the ancient Black Metal era, when the aggressive blackened riffs dwelled inside the underground music circle, many groups stayed underground to the bones, and the Norwegian ILDJARN was one of these musical projects that have been created in the hardest Black Metal era ever. Never mind the cheesy production and the fragile sound here, because the harsh black metal spirit has always been careless about the production and focusing only on the dark feelings, so be careful here, if you're searching for a good production then the primal Black Metal sound is defiantly not for you.

If you're not familiar with ILDJARN, then this debut album is not the good way to start listening here, because I consider the next albums more matured and have darker performance. This debut album consists of 27 tracks that run for about one hour and 15 minutes, which means this album will be a very harsh-long journey for your ears, especially if you're not familiar with the primal Black Metal production of the early 90s, but if you're into that garage home recording sound and you like to sink inside the feelings of the Norwegian underground Black Metal scene then you will enjoy the simple rapid-paced riffing and the rhapsodic blackened vocals.

The materials are very low and primitive, and the drumming loops in annoying way without any obvious progression during the whole album, which something was popular in the first primal bands of the second wave of Black Metal. The distortion takes the whole sound and buries the sound of the bass, but created a wide range of distorted ambient behind the monstrous vocals. I won't recommend any specific track in this record, because the best way to enjoy this album is to listen to it as a whole. It's very wrong to compare this album with any release in your mind, because this album that has been released in the early 1995 was one of those influential releases that affected the current wave of Black Metal, so this album is considered as a legacy. If you're a fan of the 90s sound of BURZUM and DARKTHRONE then you'll enjoy the ferocity of this album.

If you wish that you're headbanging insanely in one of the early 90s Black Metal gigs of Norway, then all what you have to do is to get your copy of this album right now and get a freaking large cup of beer, and start enjoying the ancient primal riffs getting out of your speakers, and then you can sense the feelings that your Black Metal ancestors felt in that time.
