Gin Lady - Mother's Ruin album cover

GIN LADY is band formed in early 2011 by Joakim Karlsson, Magnus Kärnebro, Anthon Johansson, Fredrik Normark and Klas Holmgren hailing from Skellefteå, Stockholm and Gothenburg of the Swedish land. Their debut album entitled "Gin Lady" was released just last year and here we are, a year later, with a sophomore named "Mother's Ruin".

Fantastic opener "Mother's Ruin" consists of great Rock N' Roll mixed with early Hard Rock timed to the 70s featuring key moments of DEEP PUPRLE and THE ROLLING STONES. "High Flyer" shares similar rhythm sections and overhead keyboards to the classic tune of "Riders of the Storm" by THE DOORS. The Saxophone edition to the track was quite commendable. "All Because Of You" turns up the Blues with melodic singing by the band's backing vocals, a pretty decent Rocker that reminded me the works of THE EAGLES or the 90s efforts of Kid Rock. "Den Of Wolves" is a tight Rocker, oozed with bits of Blues, driven in the vein of WHITESAKE and DEEP PURPLE. Same influenced came to life on "Listen What I Say", glorified with Hammond great Rock riffery while "Ragged Man Blues" smites with well played Blues Rock out of the 80s.

Other bystanders worthy of your attention: well written melodic "Lipstick Woman", impressive "Thunder & Lightning", sweet balladry of "Learning How To Live" with Bluesy riffs, charming "Oh, Sweet Misery" with an aura PINK FLOYD, true Rock 'N' Roll of "Rockin' Horse" with thundering guitars, drums & choirs kind of like STATUS QUO, "Big Bad Wolf" slapping it Country and the cheerfulness of "Far From Being Ok".

GIN LADY's album is just excellent. Production sounded very good. The band wanted to re-hatch the solemnity of Blue and Hard Rock resulting in an adequate comeback to the beautiful world of the 70s. Fans of early Hard Rock would wish to devour this one.
