Double Treat - Wander Thirst album cover

Numerous seasons changed, gone with the wind, since the last time that I really reviewed a Blues Rock derived release. Drawing me back to the hey days of classic Rock nurtured in the 70s, there is this fine duo of musicians that put together a band / project named DOUBLE TREAT. On its own, this title had me thinking of a Glam Metal patch, or at least something of the old 80s Hair nation, yet I was wrong on both tallies. This is actually an interesting piece of work, harnessing Rock progression that might even raise a few eyebrows for PINK FLOYD and YES fans, albeit, the larger part of this band's musical mellow delicacies follows the lead of other, a bit more catchy, big names of the Rock industry as FOREIGNER, NIGHT RANGER, JOURNEY, KANSAS and frequent spurts off early ASIA and BLACK SABBATH. Coming in with their debut album titled "Wander Thirst", via Sleaszy Rider Records, Chris Kissadjekian & Sotiris Lagonikas seems to be determined to make a name for themselves as a pair.

Being a more of straightforward kind of Metalhead, or here I should call it Rocker; it wasn't an issue for me to welcome "Wander Thirst" to my world. Sometimes walking beyond the edges of normality is quite alright, and even soothing. Lagonikas, known for his Progressive Rock experiences as a studio artist, sets his mark on this album while joining forces with the Blues Rock enticers manned probably by his co-conspirator, Kissadjekian. This is the album's main point of interest, a thing to brag about the whole day long while articulating the likes of gloomy drenched Blues Rock, breathing life into it, as Autumn is the only season existing. Thus, most of the songs, while some felt a bit like downers that made me yawn a few times, reckoned to both being spiritual, catchy and artistic under the same platter. There were also heavier moments of modern driven guitar riffing, yet the classic potent buzz screamed in a high pitch out of spreading greyness, standing its ground. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the lead guitar productions, most of those weren't played by Lagonikas but by various guests of the local Metal / Rock scene, no doubt some kicks ass players signed in to contribute and show their worth. Nonetheless, this clamoring experience wasn't perfect, as nothing is. DOUBLE TREAT appeared to be a bit calculated at times, as if every move mattered, without let themselves go for a few times. The majority of the songs aren't that simple as it would seem to be, but I can't admit that most of them carved their insignia on my memory lane.

On the other hand, "Wander Thirst" presents creative features to be gratified about. "I'll Take Your Life" marks as an impressive mixing of FOREIGNER and NIGHT RANGER, creating an 80s oriented classic. I really enjoyed the vocal harmonies at the chorus as it sounded so full of life. The main riff is such a 70s symbol, a bit of Hendrix. The title track is a wonder epic crescendo, AOR ballad based. Both Kissadjekian and Lagonikas's singing is out of this world, sent electrical charges through my skin. This is a perfect unification of talents no doubt. "Never Too Late", the powering opener, such a YES and FOREIGNER blaster, dipped with Bluesy guitar main riffing, rather simplified rhythms and catchy chorus as expected but made with finesse. "They're Huntin' Me" turns to be a bit of Ian Gillian surplus but also mystifying in a DEEP PURPLE kind of way, probably one of the progressed tracks of this release. Hails for DOUBLE TREAT and give a listen to this debut creation, it might obstruct your senses that trust ordinariness, but it is worth it.
