One thing comes to my mind when I hear the name CATHEDRAL: the most sinister and heavy Doom Metal sound. "The Last Spire" is their new full-length studio, and I warn you: Don't miss it. Mournful guitars topped with Lee Dorrian's wailing voice creating the usual slow ominous CATHEDRAL sound, and with an opening track like "Entrance To Hell", the album kicks off with such an appalling awe as we hear a creepy "Bring Out Your Dead" looped among a uncanny clamor.

"Pallbearer" is long and kind of experimental, whereas "Cathedral Of The Damned" is more down-to-earth. The main riff of the first single "Tower Of Silence" became an all-time favorite of mine. It is also my personal favorite track. The thing is, you can't listen to it without finding yourself humming the chorus in an I-wanna-sing-like-Lee voice. The music video for this song is gloomily nice-looking.
"Infestation Of Grey Death" and "Observation" may remind you of MY DYING BRIDE, but with a much more baleful feeling to them. A track like "The Last Laughter" is very TYPE O NEGATIVE thing, something I appreciate, being the TYPE O NEGATIVE freak that I am. "This body, Thy Bomb" is more elaborate vocal-wise and has a sort of CANDLEMASS epicness. It is also a very soundscape track due to the use of a breathtakingly trickling water sound then wraps up in a very TYPE O NEGATIVE way again, a great ending to such an awe-inspiring album.

Well, if I had to describe the whole thing in one word, I'd say Evil. Yes, this is one hell of a sinister album.
