Queue For The Cure
Struck/Down

STRUCK/DOWN are from Canterbury, a city in Kent, England. That has been their home turf since 2014, so they have been making their style Groove Metal with some Stoner Metal sidelines for 12 years. So far, they have released three EP's and one album ("Gone" in 2019) before bombarding us with some 42 minutes of pure Metal. As usual, I hadn't heard of STRUCK/DOWN before today, only as a YESTERDAY & TODAY album from the seventies. And when I started to listen to what these English blokes have to offer on their latest venture "Queue For The Cure", I have to say that I was and am pleasantly surprised.
I know it's not an accurate resemblance, but if you like the "Metallica" album (or, if you will, the Black album) by the band with the same name, you are going to enjoy "Queue For The Cure". No, it's not a copy, not even the same, but there are parts that will remind you of them, especially when singer Linden Twyman uses his gravelly voice. It makes him sound a bit like James Hetfield in those instances. When he uses his clear voice, you might think that you're hearing Keith Caputo delivering the vocal lines. (And before you accuse me of the wrong name for this singer, he has publicly stated that he will undo his transition and change his name back to Keith.) As for the music on this album, it can easily and without hesitation be construed as an amalgamation of the two bands mentioned as well. Like I said, it's not exactly accurate, but those are the connections that are being made in my head.
As for the songs themselves, they're more than fine. I'm not going to tell you that STRUCK/DOWN has brought us a life-changing or earthshattering record with "Queue For The Cure", but it is one that is very enjoyable, pleasant and easy to listen to. Having a good sound to accompany it all does help in this instance, so that earns the band some bonus points. If you're interested in what I've written here you really need to listen to "Queue For The Cure". You might find that I've been talking bollocks and that STRUCK/DOWN is a lot better than I give them credit for. But just remember, these are what my brains and heart are telling me. So that is what I have to write down, or in this case, type.
