Reborn To Light

Aeon Gods

AEON GODS plays their Symphonic Power Metal rather fast, giving the drummer enough space to demonstrate his double bass techniques. The guitars that accompany that sound are very well versed in making the whole sound heavy without losing the very Melodic touch. On top of that there are the vocals, that sound very pleasant, that are exactly right for this kind of music.

AEON GODS have only existed since 2022, and already they are giving us their second studio album "Reborn To Light". As this is a first encounter with them for me it is safe to say that I never hear their debut album "King Of Gods". These Germans play Symphonic Power Metal, and try to tell a story whilst doing so. And the story they have to tell is always steeped in Mythology. And when you start to listen to AEON GODS, you will hear that a good sounding band that has a clear path as to where they are headed, what their Metal path is to be and to stay. In just under three quarters of an hour they present us with ten songs that have all the elements that fit with the musical direction they have chosen.

And when it comes to harmonies in the voices, they bare also done to the best possible standard. This only means that AEON GODS is a perfect fit for the real and true Symphonic Power Metal fan. They are going to have a field day when listening to "Reborn To Light".

I'm not easy to please, at least not always, and certainly not this time. Because however good the songs on "Reborn To Light" might sound, and even though they have that certain quality that you are hoping for when you listen to this kind of Metal, they do have a major flaw in my ears. If you ask me, they are way too predictable. I don't mind using cliches or doing what someone else has done before you, but you do need to add that little edge of surprise, of doing something unexpected when the music is asking for it. Unfortunately I can't say that AEON GODS have been able to provide me with that bit. Well, at least not a lot. And that is a pity, as I do think that they have something in hand. A Heavier sounding song like "The Sacred Union" is testament that they can do it. More next time, please.
