Annihilated Existence

Sypsis

I am enamoured with the results of what i have been hearing while I have been listening to “Annihilated Existence” time and time again, and have no qualms into proclaiming this to be a treasured album.

SYPSIS is a Technical Thrash Metal band from Evia island and hometown is Istiaia, Greece. They have been around since 2012 and were able to give us an EP in 2014 ("Hypnosis") and their debut album in 2015 ("Playground Of The Dead").  Another 10 years later, on 31 October 2025, SYPSIS were able to present us with their sophomore album "Annihilated Existence". And to say that is has made an impression on me is quite the understatement. As for their musical style, they might call it Technical Thrash Metal, but on this album, I really prefer to categorise them as a Thrash Metal band with very serious Progressive tendencies. But if you feel the original description suits the SYPSIS moniker better, feel free. I can't tell you exactly what drew me into "Annihilated Existence" from the start, but something did, forcing me to just listen to this SYPSIS album time and time again.

What I do know that after the spoken introduction in "Poverty To Destructive Forms" the band steals my heart within a few seconds. But hey, that was bound to happen, as when I get confronted with pure EXODUS riff, I get really excited. SYPSIS does that again with "Hades", only this time SLAYER will come to your mind. The rest of the music is completely different from both of those excellent Thrashers, and definitely has a personality of its own. "Annihilated Existence" is a lot more open and transparent, as everything that you hear is obviously written with just one guitarist in mind, giving the atmosphere as well as the intensity a very open range. It does give way to the more Progressive and/or Technical musical parts to be able to express themselves. All these elements put together make me realise that SYPSIS has a unique own sound. Kudos to them!

Some songs on "Annihilated Existence" are pure Thrash Metal ("Mortals Torment", "Point Of Emptiness" and "Under Siege"), while others are pure Progressive, like "Hades" and "Sounds Of War". Others simply hover in between ("Poverty To Destructive Forms ", "USS Eldridger"). But what they all have in common is that they are all bloody well put together, that every tune has its own identity, but also that SYPSIS is capable of writing and producing perfectly good songs. I therefore have no choice but to award "Annihilated Existence" a rating of excellence. I am enamoured with the results of what i have been hearing while I have been listening to "Annihilated Existence" time and time again, and have no qualms into proclaiming this to be a treasured album. Let's hope that SYPSIS doesn't need another ten years to come back with an equally impressive album.
