Bullet

The Swedish band Bullet got together in autumn 2001, with the aim of playing traditional heavy metal inspired by the late 1970s and early 1980s: solid, authentic and classic, with a contemporary and timeless touch. Bullet's career began when Hampus Klang teamed up with Dag "Hell" Hofer and Lenny Blade, both members of Breakers and Hypnosia, as well as Gustav Hjortsjö and Erik Almström, formerly with local thrash band Talion. Their first demo 'Heavy Metal Highway' arrived in summer 2002, followed by the EP 'Speeding In The Night' in 2003. Between 2011 and 2014, the albums 'Highway Pirates', 'Full Pull' and 'Storm Of Blades' were released on Nuclear Blast (also in Japan!), followed by 'Dust To Gold' (2018) and 'Live' (2019) on Steamhammer/SPV, each of them supported by extensive tours, which met with the difficulties that affected the whole music scene during the pandemic. Bullet have since toured with the likes of Primal Fear, Grand Magus, in addition to countless shows throughout Europe with several festival appearances.
So this is a band i have not come across before,so I can't make comparisons to previous albums."Kickstarter" starts with big guitars, big drums,a big solid sound, vocally some snarly aggressive metal vocals,a promising start sounding like a cross between AC/DC and NWOBHM."Caught In The Action" is another fast flowing, heavy hitting rock n' roll that you can bang your head to and pump the air with those fists or devil horns, which is pretty much the theme of the album,it's pretty one dimensional sound wise good old fashioned rock n roll/ metal with tracks like "Open Fire","Hit The Road" and the appropriately named "Chained By Metal"."Keep Rolling" lets you catch a breath all be it briefly with it's slower pace, but still hits hard melody wise."Avenger" & "Spitfire" musically sound great, but vocally for most of the album i find the vocals terrible,i start to think is this another one of those parody acts? Don't get me wrong some of the vocals are good in places but on some tracks I start to imagine an episode of The Young Ones where we find Vivian fronting a Metal band going berserk! Or we have one of The Daleks from Doctor Who fronting the band!I just don't know what to make of it at all.I think that people will either love or hate the vocals, personally I'm not a fan sorry. The penultimate track"Strike At Night" is another fast paced short but sweet rocker, before the album closes with "Night Falls Down" another track with the obvious influences.
"Kickstarter" did start off full of promise, but as the album progressed the appeal dwindled for me due to the vocals. also Bullet sounded like a one trick pony. The production & mix was good, the guitars & percussion perfectly balanced, but vocally apart from the opening two tracks I didn't like it,I felt it was poor, perfect sounding voice for a band with this sound, but the delivery was poor."Kickstarter" is either an album you will take it or leave it,unfortunately I'm sorry to say mines the latter.
