Só Quem Viu o Relâmpago à Sua Direita Sabe
Kaatayra

Fractions of Life Records is proud to present the first exclusive vinyl pressing of one of the most unique albums ever released within the realm of (not just) Atmospheric Black Metal: "Só quem viu o relâmpago à sua direita sabe" by KAATAYRA. It is a truly spiritual experience: a black metal record interwoven with Brazilian folk music, creating a transcendent, uplifting, and warm atmosphere that leaves the listener with a meaningful—and possibly life-changing—sense of inner peace. The album is cut by Caio Lemos itself to perfectly fit into a single LP but without losing any aspects and atmosphere of the original release.
The album has four long songs, and "Chama Terra, Chama Chuva" is first, marked by a speed pace of layered clean guitars, tortured harsh vocals, and even some Latin flair in some of the music. It's hasty, and hard to catch up with, and the vocal chants have a heavy emotional quality to them. "Desnaturação de Si-Mesmo" has a similar sound…fast picked guitars that offer layers like a peeled onion, and the harsh vocals offer a stark contrast. For, the duality reminds me of the complexities of human existence. Keyboards add another layer of sound also. Rounding the halfway point, much of the tension drops and is replaced by warm tones, and they carry the song forward to completion.
The title track begins with a steady pace of tom drums and more clean guitars, and tension hangs in the air like a fog that you can't quite see through. Again, the harsh vocals provide that emotional contrast in the music, and they are jarring at times. The longer you listen, the more you pick up on some hypnotizing tones also. "Bom Retorno (De Volta às Origens)" is the final song, and it enters with a lush palate of thick keyboards. Like the ebb and flow of the ocean, it undulates, swelling at times, and retreating at others. Drums come into play, and smooth clean vocals are followed by harsh, and then the cleans wash out the sound.
After two listens, I am still not entirely sure what I think about the album. The band leaves the door open for mystery, and even your own imagination. Harsh vocals contrast with traditional Brazilian folk music in a way that just keeps you on your toes throughout the experience, and if nothing else, its mysteries are buried deep within.
