"Spear of Conquest" is the merciless 21-minute debut assault of SUMMONING HELLGATES. An act of spiritual devastation, existential decay, and ritual violence, and a disintegration of identity and the liberation found in death and transgression. This is not a proclamation, but a wound carved deep into the flesh. The album has six songs, and "Invokation" is first. It's a short, mood-setting instrumental, setting a harrowing tone for the album. The chants of "I demand that the gates will be opened" gets viler with each passing phrase. Segueing into "Conciliabulo," it is very dark, aggressive, and frightening, and the near chaos that follows is even more harrowing. The dive bomb leads have a Death Metal quality to them for sure.

"Hostis Humani Generis – The Revenant" is another dark and contentious offering, and the band takes the sound so deep, they might has well bury it in the ground. Meaty bass notes accompany the aggression in the guitars and vocals, and the drums roll at machine gun speed. "Tongues in the Threshold" continues with a vile, filthy, and black sound, at times with Thrash styled riffs. It's a fast ride over a hellishly hot landscape where you just try your best to outrun the flames. "Prisoner of Your Own Flesh" begins with a speedy and aggressive sound that slows so you can take it all in. The title suddenly becomes very real for the listener…we are indeed prisoners of our own flesh.

"Cilice of Atonement" closes the album, and it's another brutally bashing song, perhaps the thickest on the album when it comes to that. Rounding the halfway mark and headed towards the end, the song transforms into feedback that mirrors destruction of the earth. Overall, the album was delightfully wicked, and the vocals were every bit as dark and aggressive as the music. If you want to take a fiery joy ride downward into Hell, climb aboard.
