Ghost of a Warrior
Phantom Vengeance

"Ghost of a Warrior" is an album that explores themes of honour, vengeance, and the haunting weight of unfinished wars. Across its tracks, the band merges intricate guitar harmonies, pounding double-kick drums, and choirs that sound like they're echoing from a cursed battlefield. Many historic (true or not) events are revisited in the songs. Recorded at Phantom Studio and produced by the band themselves, the record blends the grit of 80's metal with classical influences. The album has ten songs, and "Black Night" is first. Out of the gate, it is fast, weighted, and tainted with symphonic elements. The singer has a very nice voice. If I had a gun to my head, I would call this Power Metal, Progressive elements notwithstanding. "The Graveyard" has slower and darker tones, and the symphonic elements support the sound. The piano work is also excellent, and the band is able to convey some real emotion here, especially in the powerful chorus. "Though the Mountains" is as dark and mysterious as I imagine the journey to be. There are also some fancy Progressive elements here both in the chord progressions and in the meter, and it's obvious that the band has talent.
"Vengeance is Mine" has an energetic sound and those symphonic arrangements are sweeping. You can easily move your head to the music here, it beckons you with its groove and classical feeling. "The Geisha and the Ronin" has a distinctive sound from the piano and keyboards, and for some reason, it reminds of the opening song in ALADDIN. The singer really stretches out here, hitting some very high notes with deadly accuracy. The final song is divided into three parts. The first part has some opening organ notes and this impending sense of Doom. The female vocals are also excellent. The second part has a more melodic groove, and you get the sense he is telling a story here, in the dark shadows of alleyways. It has a commanding presence and again an outstanding vocal performance. The final part brings the vivid tale to a close. Strings lead the charge, followed by a firm and powerful riff. Once these wheels are in motion, there is no stopping them. It's powerful, emotive, and energetic. The music I used to listen to in the 80's, that inspired the band, required an excellent singer and musicians. PHANTOM VENGEANCE has both. I don't know his name, but he has a crystal clear, rich voice and he can easily negotiate the upper ranges. The music is intelligent, fun to listen to, and emotional. This is an album that any Metalhead would enjoy.
