Gimme Some Metal

Steelpreacher

STEELPREACHER might not set the world on fire, they are definitely set on providing us a good time with very open and easy listening Metal. And on “Gimme Some Metal” they have succeeded in doing just that. Hats off to them.

I love a bit of Glam. I started my musical life loving Glam Rock with the Teeny Bopper Bands of the seventies like MUD, RUBETTES, BAY CITY ROLLERS, but also the proper rockers of SWEET and SLADE. Throughout the years there have been a few good bands that went a bit harder, and you land in the Hair Metal era, of which my favourite by far was DOKKEN. Of course there were others, but what they all had in common is that the music made you smile and was light-hearted. Later on ANDREW WK came to the scene, and he made sure that the party vibe was to be prevalent.  I liked that as well, but in moderation. Now I am experiencing STEELPREACHER for the fist time, a German Heavy Metal band from the Koblenz area. In the 24 years that they have been active they were able to produce six studio albums before the one that is currently attempting to blow up my speakers; "Gimme Some Metal".

STEELPREACHER are mixing the forementioned influences and in that process they are doing something right by me, as I'm actually enjoying listening to the 47 minutes plus that "Gimme Some Metal" takes from start to finish. A lot of time you will get those easy listening party songs, and I feel that these have that light feel and the unburdening atmosphere that will make you feel good, give you a positive buzz and make you want to sing along and enjoy the songs while you terrorize your neighbours with your terrible voice (well, that is the case with my vocal chords). But you will also be treated to proper Metal songs like "Heart Of Darkness", "Dawn Of War" and "Hell Awaits". That's when you will be transported back to ACCEPT and even AC/DC of the early eighties, as there are some similarities available. Some very obvious, others rather hidden.

I like those sounds and comparisons, as it gives off a feeling of comfort. It doesn't give you anything new or different, just very familiar. I don't know if it is just me, but I feel that after such a long career these musicians have certainly conquered the knack to be able to tell what works or not for their audience. STEELPREACHER might not set the world on fire, they are definitely set on providing us a good time with very open and easy listening Metal. And on "Gimme Some Metal" they have succeeded in doing just that. Hats off to them.
