Destroyer
Eld Varg

It's not very often that I get a Scottish band for reviewing. ELD VARG is such a band. They hail from Glasgow and make pure Heavy Metal. Nothing more, nothing less. Having been together since 2013, it took them until 2021 before they released their first studio album. "One Man Army" was followed by "One Man Army – The Reinforced Edition" in 2023. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing these albums as yet. We've plodded along for another two years and now have a chance at new music by ELD VARG, which is to be released on 14 November 2025. "Destroyer" is the result of what these Scots have been trying to achieve in those years. Now let's see what I think of it, and if I can give you enough suitable and useable information as to whether this album might be applicable for your ears as well as mine.
The name ELD VARG is a Swedish one, and it means FIRE WOLF. I too agree, it sounds better in Swedish.as for what kind of Heavy Metal that is on "Destroyer", it is the simple and straight variety. Nothing elaborate or intricate is being done here. It doesn't mean that ELD VARG steers away from tempo changes or breaks. On the contrary, they are there in abundance, but they all are made simple and dare I say predictable, but always in a way that it suits and enhances the song it is used in. because that is also one thing that is very clear; musically there isn't anything wrong with what you hear on "Destroyer". It might be old fashioned and straight forward Heavy Metal, but it also has been done with the heart in the right place.
And although I haven't mentioned the vocals, I have to admit that they fit the music as they should. I'll admit I didn't think so at first, as the voice of Ollie Noakes isn't one that covers more than an octave and a half. Plus, I felt it was too high in the mix, but as time went by and I kept listening to "Destroyer", I had to agree that with his limited range he has made the most of what ELD VARG has to offer. This just means he has done his best, like they all have in their respective departments. That is exactly what you want a band to do and achieve, and that has resulted in ELD VARG making a solid Heavy metal record. Now it is on you to listen and decide if that is enough for you. It is for me.
