Terra Atlantica

Terra Atlantica are a European Power Metal band from Hamburg Germany, who were formed in 2014 by Tristan (Vocals) and Nico (Drums) who worked together on a previous project. The duo wanted to fulfill their dream by following the style of their idols Avantascia,Edguy & Rhapsody.Singing about the saga of the Atlantis and other nautical themes quickly led to the release of the debut album "A City Once Devine" in 2017.Due to some band line up changes their second album "Ages Of Steam" released in 2020 was mainly a solo effort by Tristan & Nico .During the pandemic their third album "Beyond The Borders" was written, then released in 2022.The band is now complete again with Dawid & Julian.Terra Atlantica have shared the stage with bands such as Majesty,Storm Warrior and in 2023 went on tour supporting Grail Knights and Victorious , also hosting their own Power Metal Festival "Port Of Power" which was a sell out .In the beginning of 2024 they completed their first international tour supporting Temperance and Serenity, then in December they played their biggest ever show at the "No Sleep After Xmas Festival".
An interesting musical intro piece "Ocean Fever"with narration, also with dramatic orchestral sounds fills my room which shows potential. However "Back To The Sea" kicks in with a fast tempo power metal, double drum beats, fast riffs with orchestral touches, but the the terrible vocals and the pompous & ceremony leave me confused."Hoist The sail" is more of the same with a flute solo and is a sea chanty meets metal number!."Caribbean Shores" is just one big mess, musically it's all over the place."Turn Of The Tide" with it's fast galloping melodies and guitar duels offers a little bit of hope that this album maybe can improve."Through The Water And Waves" musically is a thrash/power metal style track with more orchestral touches which sounds good until the vocals & backing vocals ruin the track. The best track on the album "Where My Brothers Await" is more stripped back acoustic guitar led, with a folk metal sound with which sounds like accordion touches, the vocals & backing vocals actually do sound ok on this track surprisingly. The orchestral & acoustic opening to "Raven In The Dark" sound really good, which lead to a more melodic & theatrical feel & energy,a rather enjoyable track. The album concludes with the ten minute plus "Oceans Of Eternity" which has some moments where it sounds good with the guitar wizardry and the orchestra touches ,a tedious track with different twists and turns but a part from the guitar parts, even then playing a well known classical music piece, not epic by a long shot! Terra Atlantica on a positive note do like to experiment musically that's for sure. There are some moments where "Oceans" musically sounds good, vocally it's a mess, I can't take them seriously. It feels like I'm listening to a metal band mash up vs Jack Sparrow vs the Vengaboys.I even had visions of an episode of Fraggle Rock where the episode is about headbanging pirates sailing the high seas! I get the concept & theme of the album but apart from a couple of tracks, "Oceans" is not a great album its dire!4 / 10
