Verminous Contempt
Plague Curse

PLAGUE CURSE are an international blackened death metal collaboration featuring members many other established bands The band's membership isn't meant to be some sort of cultivated mystery so much as secondary to the result: an utterly punishing debut album bearing the all-too-appropriate title of "Verminous Contempt." As the album plays on, the intensity becomes even more manic and the band's mastery all the more apparent - a literal slipstream into foul, fetid waters paradoxically performed in the cleanest, crispest manner. A warped world, for sure, but PLAGUE CURSE will plunge you deeply into the sewers of "Verminous Contempt."
The album has ten songs, and "Most Vile" is first. Out of the gates, the guttural vocals and fast moving riffs are nearly impossible to keep up with. There are also some screams, and the overall soundtrack is intense. "In the Shadow of Hate" is another totally filthy offering. The pace is fast, the sound is angry, and the time that the drummer keeps is almost impossible to follow, he is so fast. "Of Fornication and Malice" has vocals that speak at a breakneck pace and it closer to Death Metal than Black Metal. There is evil at work here, and it's the kind that does not sleep. "Nocturnal Cruelty" is another thick slab of harrowing Death Metal that brings some torture along with it. Things that happen at night should stay in the night. They vary the pacing from time to time to keep the listener on their toes.
"Amidst the Devastation" is another blistering song, and the band shows no signs of slowing down. This time, some of the vocals are cadenced, and they sound like they come from Satan himself. "Reigning in Ruin" is yet another song where the band steps on the gas pedal and doesn't let it up. Instead, they press it down firmly and leave you to hang on for the ride for your life. The tones are callous, and nasty. "Oderint Dum Metuant" is the final song, and it's a short instrumental, consisting mostly of what sound like white noise, only bastardized into what I call black noise. This was a thoroughly evil album that championed the best of what Death and Black Metal can offer to fans. The songs were hasty, plowed through all barriers, and the vocals were filthy and disgusting…everything a good blackened death metal album should be.
