Apolitical Ecstasy
Jelusick
Their first album “Follow The Blind Man” was reviewed by me for Metal Temple when it was released in 2023. And the conclusion was quite clear; I thought it was a good album, but that the band needed to grow in the songwriting department. Well, they apparently have listened to my advice, and although they’re not there yet, the tunes that I get to hear on “Apolitical Ecstasy” are quite the improvement.

The fact that Dino Jelusić is a good singer was already known to all the WHITESNAKE fans who have seen that band live in the last years before David Coverdale decided enough was enough. He played the keyboards there, but also was one of the voices that were covering up the fact that the main man unfortunately had lost it. It ended the career of one of the most distinguishable and brilliant voices ever in Melodic Rock history. But let's look at the future now. I can vouch for Dino Jelusić being an outstanding singer and performer as I saw him as a guest singer at the AYREON show in Tilburg this year. The ease with which this man can adopt any tone or voice is staggering. Thankfully he has found his own way with the band that carries his own name, JELUSICK.
As for the history of JELUSICK, it is quite short, as "Apolitical Ecstasy" is the sophomore album. Their first album "Follow The Blind Man" was reviewed by me for Metal Temple when it was released in 2023. And the conclusion was quite clear; I thought it was a good album, but that the band needed to grow in the songwriting department. Well, they apparently have listened to my advice, and although they're not there yet, the tunes that I get to hear on "Apolitical Ecstasy" are quite the improvement. The release date of 19 September has been and gone, and I really expect the Melodic Metal and Heavy Metal audiences to flock to their record stores and get this piece of slab.
I didn't expect the first three songs on the album, "Jaws Of Life", "Power To The People" and "Hangman" to sound as Heavy as they do on "Apolitical Ecstasy". I'm glad they do, though, as it does deliver the message that JELUSICK isn't just one of those middle of the road Melodic Rock/Metal bands. Nope, they are not afraid to look a bit further out of their comfort zone and find and adapt some Heavier music to their own tastes and abilities. What that has done is create and confirm the fact Of course you get ballads and power ballads as well, like "Seasons" and "What The Hell Is Goin' On". The wide variety and diversity between the two is done just right and gives "Apolitical Ecstasy" a two-faced character, but in this case a very friendly one. Like I mentioned, the band is not there yet, but I do believe that JELUSICK has taken another step into becoming one of those Stadium Rock/Metal bands.
