Light the Devil’s Fire
Revelator

From Bandcamp "Spawned from the cold, grim heart of Edmonton, Canada, REVELATOR is a nihilistic assault that is raw, relentless, and unwavering in its devotion to the darkest corners of archaic extreme metal. Born in 2017, they quickly established itself as a local beacon of furious, unrepentant energy, aligning themselves with the primal ethos of unholy power that goes back to the roots of their genre, wielded mercilessly through every riff, every beat, and every beckoning. Prepare for the onslaught. REVELATOR is here. REVELATOR is watching you."
The album has ten songs, and "The Numberless Mysteries of Nameless Entities" is first. An aggressive, distorted riff greets the listener, but it's not chaotic, rather its presence is thick. The vocals are harsh, and I get an amalgam of Black, Thrash, and Death Metal. "By the Whip" is a faster attack of precise Thrash riffs with a drummer who is like the energizer bunny. When you consider that they constantly hit the mark, it is impressive. This album has a lot of energy so far. "He Who Reveals Grand Wisdom" is another weighted scorcher, but this time, with a dark and sinister edge. "Bapho-Maria" has that familiar Black Metal sound to it. The riff is thick, the air chokes with smoke, and you can hear some evil sounds emanating from the riff and the vocals.
"Inside My Cryptic Chambers" is where the album begins to blend together a bit. When you use a similar pace and sound from song to song, this can happen. Let's hope the band can get back on track with some variety. "Lest Thee Be Vexed" is that bit of variation. It's slower, and more sinister, with a powerful riff that busts through concrete, and vocals that send chills down your spine. At times, the riffs shift to what sounds like a song that could have been on METALLICA's "Kill Em All." "We Who Reign With the Devil" is like an anthem of war, so to speak. The riff charges forward and leaves nothing in its path. "Perpetual Undeath" is slower, and perhaps heavier, with guttural vocals. It sounds like the growlings of a waking bear.
"Light the Devil's Fire" is the final song., and as the title suggests, it's an evil and torturous sound, with energetic riffs and fast pace drumming. Overall, this was a solid listening experience for me. Although the band isn't trying to reinvent the genres, and some of the riffs you have heard before, they present them with an unbridled energy and belief in their craft.
