Addicted to Power
Nefarious
Thrash Metal is the main ingredient that NEFARIOUS uses to mark their music. but it is not all they use. Nope, you will also get regular Heavy Metal mixed in, but in a way that the Thrash Metal title used will stay upright through it all.

Damn, Damn, Damn. Hell yeah!! I got the honour of reviewing the debut album of NEFARIOUS. If you are not a Thrash metal afficionado it might raise a red flag, but if you are you will be fully aware that we are talking about a new supergroup. We all know singer Katon W. DePena of HIRAX and Rick Hunolt as the ex-guitarist of EXODUS and current one of DIEHUMANE. There also are the QUINTANNICA members as guitarist Doug Piercy, who was with bands like ANGEL WITCH, BLIND ILLUSION and HEATHEN, bassist Tom Gears, who has played with quite a few bands including BLIND ILLUSION, and drummer Will Carroll, who used to be in a.o. MACHINE HEAD and VICIOUS RUMORS. So, yes, we are talking about a very talented but also extremely experienced gathering of Thrash and Heavy Metal heavyweights. And after getting together for the first time in 2024 they found that they all gelled well, and thus started writing their own music, marking the birth of NEFARIOUS. It also explains the swift release of the debut album "Addicted to Power" through Relentless Metal Records. I couldn't find anything on them on internet, so I went to their PR company Freeman Promotions to give you a link to the right record company underneath this review.
Back to the music. Before you ask, yes, Metal is the main ingredient that NEFARIOUS uses to mark their music. but it is not all they use. Nope, you will also get regular Heavy Metal mixed in, but in a way that the Thrash Metal title used will stay upright through it all. You can hear all the experience in how easy the band members have been able to find each other, how natural everything the do does sound. And I have to say that I have never heard Katon W. DePena sound so convincing and honest without him having to spit out his intestines. On "Addicted to Power" he doesn't sound like the angry father trying to reprimand the world around him but like a good and capable singer making sure the way he uses his voice will bring out the best that NEFARIOUS has to offer musically. And even though there are a lot of years of musical prowess playing, there is not one moment when this sounds either complacent or like just fulfilling a contract. NEFARIOUS actually sounds like a band that is trying to prove a point. And they do that convincingly. Even though I like what I am hearing, as it all is rather good, I still have the feeling that they could have gotten more out of these songs. I could be wrong, but I have a hunch that they have rushed recording "Addicted to Power". But even if they had, I'm not complaining, as this is a very welcome addition to my Heavy and Thrash Metal collection.
