We Got This Idea (Reissue)

Avalon

This boosted reissue from this North American Heavy Metal act is justified by the quartet's music, indeed.

A manifestation of the success of Old School Metal tendencies today isn’t only the praise (and numbers) of bands in these ways, but the reissue of many releases of the past that didn’t get the value they deserved (or not) on their original days. Ok, of course many bands don’t deserve to be remembered, once they just one in the middle of thousands of others; but some really deserve, as the New York Metalheads of AVALON. And here is a boosted version of their 1990 Demo Tape “We Got This Idea”. This release shows a band that follows a tendency into US Metal of the second half of the 80s: heavy, melodic and technical, and transpiring with influences of 70s Hard Rock in many points.

It’s similar to acts as QUEENSRŸCHE due the good technical approach (but not as Progressive Metal as the Seattle lords), ICED EARTH and others, but without being a clone, but sharing some elements that are usual for USA Heavy Metal School. And it’s very good, indeed. The songs were remastered by Kostas Scandalis at Infinity Studios, on April 2025, boosting the old sonority that allows everyone to understand what’s being played and give it an actual shine, even on the live tracks. And applauses to the very good work of Kostas Athanasoglou on the artwork, layout and pics restoration.

By ‘boosted version’, it’s clear that this release isn’t just CD version of the original tape of “We Got This Idea” (from where came “Knocked Down”, “Black Widow”, “Breaking Down the Walls”, “Evil (Ηath Νo Νame)”, “Fatal Attraction”, “Face the Mourning”, “Burning Hot”, “How Does It Feel”, and “Simon Sez”, and shows a work that really resembles what was US Metal on the late days of the 80s), but it has 3 songs of an unreleased Demo Tape of 1994 (“Rage”, “Take Me Away” and “Hell Right”, where the bass guitar lines and backing vocals are done by Hunter Platin), and 3 unreleases songs recorded live at CBGB (“Damned”, “Temptation” and “Hell’s Kitchen”). Their musical work is so good that it’s not hard to think that with a good producer, their music could take flight (if we forget that 1991 marked the coming of Alternative Rock/Grunge way that forced Metal acts from USA to fall into underground depths).

AVALON doesn’t exist anymore, but their music deserves to be heard. “We Got This Idea” opens way for a reissue of “Live or Die”, their first (and only) album.
