Vs The World

Poison The Preacher

Wow, these guys are up to blow the world into pieces with this Thrash Metal/Crossover release!

South America is a true cradle of excellent Metal acts, with bands in every country raising its instruments and creating music in many different genres, and even using musical elements from their own regions. But in a more puritan way comes the quartet POISON THE PREACHER with its first full-length, “Vs the World”. Juan Pablo Carrera (the band’s singer and guitarist) worked as producer, having Yizux Fridén on the sound engineering, and the sonority of the album is filled with that essential aggressive distorted feeling for the band’s genre, but with very good instrumental tunes and a defined approach that turns the understanding of their musical work easier.

The (excellent) artwork on the cover is a creation of Nicolas Spotti; and as guests, here are Chris Ramos (singer of DEAD HEAT) on the additional vocals on “Sucker Punch”, Devin Swank (singer of SANGUISUGABOGG, EARTHBURNER and others) doing additional vocals on “Dying Every Day”, and Diego Triana on percussion. The band’s musical work is based on 80s Thrash Metal/Crossover way similar to what’s done by MUNICIPAL WASTE (but not copying it), or in other worlds, the use of elements of all these genres resulting in an aggressive expression, with very good technical appeal in many moments (even some basting double bass conductions can be heard, as on “Dying Every Day”), with many oppressive breakdowns and even death growls. And even playing such eroded subgenre, they know how to make things sound alive and full of energy, staying away from being moldy and dead. It’s perfect for moshpits and slam dancing!

Musically, it’s a poking in both eyes at the same time, provocative and insidious (but when Crossover isn’t on such way?), and to deal with “Future Tense”, “Sucker Punch”, “Dying Every Day”, “1312”, “Hate Too Much”, “Congelado en el Tiempo”, “Promise to Pay”, “One Man Army” and “Us Against the World” is something easy, but beware of your ears, because the band shows maturity both on the instrumental sheath as on the insane vocals.

For those addicted to Thrash Metal ways, “Vs the World” is a great release, and more can be expected from POISON THE PREACHER in the future.
