Who Killed the World?

Gurnslinger

This quartet mix a lot of musical influences in a coherent and excellent form. And the result is this release.

Since the coming of old tendencies on Metal and Rock ‘n’ Roll in the late days of the 80s/beginning of the 90s (before the age when Alternative Rock came with acts as NIRVANA and PEARL JAM, there was JANE’S ADDICTION, mind you), many bands researched on the past to create something new for them (what’s hard to be done, but’s not impossible), resulting in new models that were expanded. And it seems that the quartet GURNSLINGER on “Who Killed the World?” is trying to do the same thing. Recorded at Rozel Bay, Jersey (a small island off the north of France, where the guys isolated themselves to get inspiration) under the guidance of Lucas Sauner. And they hired Steve Sears Jr. (who worked with THE HELL, GALLOWS, WACO, CONJURER and others) to set the mixing.

The sonority is something organic and free of compromises, with very good instrumental tunes and vocals set as they must, and without trying to have an Old School sonority, it’s what they have in a very good way, indeed. To describe their music isn’t an easy task, because influences of Hard Rock, Stoner Rock, Punk Rock, Progressive Rock, Acid Rock and others are in the mix, and in a consensual way. Sometimes it has some similar traits to LED ZEPPELIN (due the natural groove of their music, as heard on moments on “Capable”), BLUE CHEER and others, but without being a copycat. It’s different, and it’s really very good.

Tons of raw energy, excellent melodies and more can be heard on the band’s music, so taste their musical offering done on “The Lizards”, “Back to Joe’s”, “A War Chant”, “Capable” and “The Altar of the Cult of the V8”, because they really have a great musical worked based on solid rhythms shifts filled with groove, filthy and charming guitar riffs and arrangements, and very good vocals. Yes, this is a precious release that defies some categorizations and ideas, so the best is to listen and enjoy.

“Who Killed the World?” is a fine album (whose name was taken from a quote from the film “Mad Max”), and be prepared for GURNSLINGER’s attack!
