Geysterzvvang
Drudensang

The lo fi appeal of the old days of Black Metal during the 90s still is a source of inspiration for many younger acts. The days when MAYHEM, DARKTHRONE, SATYRICON, EMPEROR, MARDUK, ROTTING CHRIST, ABIGOR and others released their early works are alive as they still influence younger bands to follow such trend. And one more of these bands is the German act DRUDENSANG. “Geysterzvvang” - their new EP - is a proof of that. Markus Stock signs the mixing and mastering of these six songs, and the concept to which the quartet is attached demands a lot file sonority to evoke the right ambiences for this EP.
It’s obvious that things could be done in a better way - just to make things better understandable for the fans - but’s what many think that is enough for the genre. The band is compromised to create a morbid and funeral form of Old School Black Metal, firmly rooted on what was done in the first half of the 90s, with funereal ambiences (improved by the use of keyboards, as heard on “Hoellenkunst im Brennend Aether”, or by acoustic guitar passages, as heard on “Offenbarung der Lvzier”). In some senses, it’s not a sin to say that Brazilian act MYSTERIIS works on such trench on “About the Christian Despair”, what means that’s aggressive and funeral, but primitive as well.
“Geysterzvvang”, “VVydargaenger”, “Hoellenkunst im Brennend Aether”, “Offenbarung der Lvzier”, “Blutkreys Teufeley” and “Miasma” are very good moments, with screams and shrieks filling the spaces, viral guitar riffs, heavy rhythms created by bass guitar and drums and charming keyboards parts. But a better sonority is asked for the to gain life (remember: to be lo fi doesn’t mean to be fuzzy). A better sonority in the future, and DRUDENSANG tendency is to grow. By now, “Geysterzvvang” is strictly recommended only for Black Metal fans
