From the EPK: SIGNS OF ALGORITHM delivers a dynamic blend of melodic yet hard-hitting Metalcore, seamlessly balancing raw aggression with atmospheric depth. Founded in Belgium, the band has been a relentless force in the Metal scene for over a decade. In 2016 they released their debut album, “Harbringer”, through White Tower Records. This marked the beginning of a new chapter, propelling them onto the European metal stage. The band actually started in 2013, and in 2025 we can say that we have aged another nine years before the band decided that it was time to get our attention once again by releasing another studio album, which they called “Sunchaser”.

And yes, once the music starts you can be sure that you are listening to a pure and unadulterated Metalcore album. SIGNS OF ALGORITHM goes for broke, and mixes aggression and Heavy Music in a very constructive and positive way. The vocals really fit on top of all that is brought on “Sunchaser”. What these Belgians do not do is go from one extreme emotion to the other. You will not hear them going from emo parts to extreme Death Metal rhythms and vice versa. They stay just in between those boundaries, and to my ears it sounds as if they have made the right choice, as what I get thrown out of my speakers is obviously done with a lot of enthusiasm and good musicianship.

But having those boundaries also creates a bit of a dilemma, as you never get the feeling that SIGNS OF ALGORITHM is showing us the whole picture, as if they are holding back on releasing all the emotions, they have hidden inside themselves. That might not be bad, but it does take away the kind of experience that you get when a band lets go and goes the whole hog. It somehow gives you the idea that SIGNS OF ALGORITHM have taken to the middle of the road, and to be fair, that is not what Metalcore is about. When digesting these issues just think of SLEEP TOKEN at their best, and you will know what I mean. What that does is classify “Sunchaser” as a pleasant album that could even appeal to those who would normally avoid Metalcore like the plague. But it will also have the real Metalcore afficionados feel that they have been cheated out of an even better album than it now is. I know that I am part of the latter category.
