To play any Metal genre one can think of is a matter of being disrespectful sometimes. It means that you can say you’re into this or that genre, but when creating music, your own must rule things, not something as ‘we-are-a-this-label-band-so-we-must-do-things-in-this-way’. And maybe a different insight can come from where you couldn’t imagine before, as done by ANCESTOR OF KAOS on “Animal Ritual”, its new full-length.

Joel Kaos (the band’s guitarist/bassist) and Alcides Rodriguez worked together on the recordings and act as producers at Produced at Exile Recording Studio, Las Vegas, Nevada; and the mixing and mastering are signed by Alex Sedin (who worked on behalf of Ghostalgy Productions). The sonority was worked in a way that sounds like a Black Metal release in many aspects, but keeps things understandable. And what a very good artwork of Belial Necro (artwork), Luis Bosque and Enyil Cordoba (design).

Musically - into a strict sense - one can label the band’s music as Black Metal at first sight. But when hearing to it, one can detect influences inherited from Black/Thrash Metal, Thrash Metal and Old School Death Metal, all played with a different insight with unexpected elements (as the groove presented on beginning of “In Chariots of Grime” and “Legacy” that’s similar to SEPULTURA on “Chaos A.D.” era, and unexpected guitar solos as on “Death by Hanging”) and a very good technical appeal. Maybe it’s an effect for their origins on Cuba (the band now is at Miami).

Excellent rhythmic contrasts (between slow and fast tempos), massive and catching guitar riffs, harsh shrieks and more can be found on “Death by Hanging”, “Eternal Night”, “In Chariots of Grime”, “Dance of the Sullen”, “Legacy”, “Exorcism of Liberation”, “Animal Ritual”, “Raven Raiser”, “Procreating Armageddon” and “Under Red Menace”. It’s not perfect, but they’re in the right way for doing so in a near future if they keep doing things on this way (what means on their own).

“Animal Ritual” is a very good release, and if you’re looking for a new experience in Black Metal, you must pay attention to ANCESTOR OF KAOS’ music.
