Refuting the Flesh
Osbcureviolence
Death Metal is a genre that always can be used with different elements, and no one can say that’s a mistake. But’s more common for a band to rely on models that already exist, so this is the reason for the existence of many traditional Death Metal acts. But no one said that a band can do a very good work on such ways, and a fine example of a very good work that was created using old models is heard on “Refuting the Flesh”, of the Russian trio OSBCUREVIOLENCE. It’s simply a traditional Death Metal Metal way as it was usual for the bands during the successful era of the Second Wave of Death Metal (between 1991 and 1995), but plenty of Old School Death/Black Metal traits (something inherited from SARCÓFAGO and BLASPHEMY).
Brutal, simple and aggressive the band’s music is easy to like for those that are fans of the genre, and it’s sobber technique and energetic appeal is hard to resist. The sonority was conceived to have a feeling similar to the ones heard on Death Metal releases recorded at Morrisound Studio on USA and Sunlight Studios at Sweden. In other words, in the way that Death Metal sounded during the Second Wave: brutal, oppressive and nasty, but in a way that can be understood by the fans. Things could be better, but’s not as bad as these words could seem.
“Refuting the Flesh” is a Death Metal release for those with necks of steel and ears of iron, because the band’s music is truly caustic. Listen to “Exodus”, “Refuting the Flesh”, “Source of Life”, “Spiritual Agony”, “The Absurdity of Existence”, and “Pulse of Subconscious Cruelty” to understand that the older formulas can still be used and have a very good work. It’s really catchy and addictive!
Again: “Refuting the Flesh” is a release to prove that old formulas of Death Metal can still work as in the past, it’s a matter of a band knowing to work with personality. And personality is something that OBSCUREVIOLENCE has!
