From the EPK: Original members of 80’s death metal pioneers DEAD CONSPIRACY, Eric Dorsett and Eric Detablan have joined forces with their old friend, guitarist, singer and production machine Kevin Hahn to form SLEEPLESS. Classic, scorching Heavy Metal, inspired by an internal need to slam accepted dogma and to shed light on a dark past that is largely forgotten, Thrash, melody, and at times, depressive introspection, add up to a memorable gut-punch of Metal. The band released their debut EP in the USA in 2021, when they were discovered by Metal Warrior Records, who contracted them to release the EP in Europe. When the question for additional tracks aro se, SLEEPLESS decided to go back into the studio to transform their “Blood Libel” EP into a full album.

The result of all these songs added up has taken the form of their 2022 debut album “Host Desecration”. Now, another two years down the road, it is time for SLEEPLESS to release their second studio album. They have named it “Through Endless Black”. These guys from Portland, Oregon have put together ten songs that combine really strong Heavy Metal riffs with Progressive and Doom elements whilst not forgetting to make sure the Melody still shines through, especially in the choruses. And I have to admit, it works. As the production of the record is outstanding you really get to enjoy everything SLEEPLESS has written to the fullest. These guys actually are quite good at what they do, and it shows in the performances in the songs. Music as well as vocals just fit together like the proverbial glove.

As for the quality of the songs, they are all way above average. They drag you along to the heights and depths of your being, making your body, mind and soul experience all kind of different emotions. But there is one thing that is a constant; it is all very good Metal, whatever kind of style they try to add to it. “Through Endless Black” is filled with 10 good songs. To me the combination of the darkness of the songs combined with the Progressive elements gives the band just that bit of authenticity that separates the average bands from the better ones. SLEEPLESS are definitely in the latter category. If you are one of those Metalheads who does dare to try something new without having to tread unknown territories, you should listen to this SLEEPLESS album. “Through Endless Black” will not disappoint you.
