I Am Nemesis

CALIBAN is a Metal band from Germany, with an impressive back catalogue spanning all the way back to 1998 with their self-titled debut. And this release, "I Am Nemesis", deserves its place amongst the band's other releases.
It's refreshing when a band puts the same amount of effort into the lyrics as they do the instrumental side of things, and CALIBAN excels at doing this. The lyrical themes on this album include loss, fascism, how the public is influenced by the media, and even a song on how people are disrespected via the internet (now let's think why they called that one "Modern Warfare"...). The very first thing you hear when "I Am Nemesis" starts up, is some dude saying, 'You gotta be fucking kidding me?!', and that sets the tone for the themes of the album. This one question pretty much stands true throughout the album, as the band address the darker side of the human race. CALIBAN certainly aren't afraid to say what they think. Every song on here is tight lyrically and musically, and it certainly helps that "I Am Nemesis" was co-produced by guitarist Marc Görtz so they could really focus on how the music sounded.
Whilst the majority of the vocals on "I Am Nemesis" are growling and brutal, when the tempo slows down, and the clean vocals are heard, I was very impressed. And while I usually prefer cleaner vocals, CALIBAN'S music definitely works better with the growling deathly vocals. As I've mentioned before, the band also focus just as much on the musical side, and it definitely shows. With guitar work that'll melt your ears off, and drumming that will make you look like a hyperactive nodding dog, CALIBAN have got every single base covered to produce an amazing overall package.
This release has the potential to win CALIBAN a lot of new fans, and I hope it does, because they definitely deserve it.
