The Perfect Killing Machine
LIPID
LIPID are a Thrash metal band from Denmark that was created in the distant 1995. They had to wait until 2006 when they managed to release their debut full-length album "Deliver Us from Evil" after which they fall into oblivion until 2023 when they finally were able to put out their second record "The Perfect Killing Machine" on the French label Great Dane Records. LIPID's line-up consists of Soren Pedersen on guitars/vocals, Anders Pedersen on lead guitars, Martin Pedersen on drums (I guess they are all relatives) and John Smedermark on bass. So let's see what these Danish squad have to offer to the listeners...
The album begins with "Dead for the Rest of Your Life" which starts with a guitar riff that sounds like taken from the later SLAYER records, the vocals of Soren Pedersen are powerful and has some similarity to those of Gary Meskil from PRO-PAIN which is a big plus in my book, I am definitely not into the shrieking Thrash voices. The track also offers melodic guitar solos that fit with the heavy guitar riffing. The following track is the title one, "The Perfect Killing Machine" in which the PRO-PAIN influence is even more evident due to the mid-tempo drumming and the Hardcore/Thrash riffs. Again we are witnessing a strong lead guitar work from Anders Pedersen. I can feel even some MERAUDER (the legendary New York Hardcore band) in some of the passages in this track. "Before the Storm" starts with slow and crushing guitars which turn into a kind of IRON MAIDEN-like twin guitar duels. "Ominous Symphony" is a short acoustic instrumental which serves as an intro to the next track "Wreck of the Past" which is a fast Thrashy song which has an influence from the more recent SEPULTURA sound but with better guitar solos. "Imagination of the Fake" is a slower song, here Soren Pedersen sounds a lot like Max Cavalera in his "Chaos AD" period, angry and raging. This is also the longest track in the album. The final comes with "Fragments of Eternity" which sounds much different in terms of recording quality from the previous tracks, it has a demo sound so probably the track was from another recording session. It has a Groove/Thrash feeling, some melodic guitar work but nothing special.
As a whole, "The Perfect Killing Machine" is not a bad album but it is nothing special or remarkable either. LIPID are good musicians and know how to play their instruments. What they lack is a bunch of more interesting ideas that can make them stand out in the sea of similar bands. If the more groovy form of Thrash is your thing, you can check them out.
