Sequenzen des Niedergangs

Perdition’s Light

12 songs is a lot for an album without much variation. It’s not that the band or the album is bad, it’s just that listening to the songs one after another with not much else besides Black Metal intensity make for a mediocre listening experience.

Prepare for a sonic cataclysm as "Sequenzen des Niedergangs" delves deeper into the abyss of black/death metal than ever before. This relentless 12-track, 70-minute odyssey is a brutal fusion of dark intensity and atmospheric depth. German lyrics carve a path through existential despair, guiding listeners through a harrowing journey. The album is a relentless onslaught of guttural growls, savage riffs, and thunderous percussion, immersing listeners in an unyielding darkness. "Sequenzen des Niedergangs" isn't just an album; it's a descent into musical extremity, leaving a haunting mark on all who dare to listen.

“Sterbend” is first. The high treble in the production hits you first, followed by a thick wall of guitars, and vocal screams. Harrowing elements grow even darker as the song moves along. A descent into madness, indeed. “Asche” is a bit of a slower grind, with more frightening elements that times crawl very deep into the abyss. “Dormen” has more of a crushing and powerful song, fueled by deep, cavernous riffs. The sound shifts to and fro, even to some clean elements at times. The band seems fairly adept at a variety of sounds.

“Reste” is a short blast of intensity packed so densely together, you couldn’t squeeze a dime in between the notes, and the song is augmented with some creepy bells and piano. “Einsemkeit” has some varied sounds but the album is starting to fall into the trap of the songs sounding similar to one another. “Vernlasste Litchter der Welt” begins with solemn clean tones before seguing into another filthy, nasty affair. “Abbild verloschener Seelen” is another harrowing affair. Perhaps however if the band shortened the tracks a little and concentrated on more variation from song to song, that would help them album not run together.

“Outro” closes the album. A little more of this sauce would go a long way to flavor the album favorably. As I mentioned above, 12 songs is a lot for an album without much variation. It’s not that the band or the album is bad, it’s just that listening to the songs one after another with not much else besides Black Metal intensity make for a mediocre listening experience.
