Welcome to the New Dark Ages, Part 1

Beyond Grace

They incorporate a lot of different sounds into their music. Their dexterous skills are high, and I would call this a new breed of Death Metal for the decade and beyond. The sky is the limit for this band.

From Bandcamp, “BEYOND GRACE is cerebral, crushing, cathartic Death Metal. Drawn together by chance, circumstance, and a mutual love of all things heavy, the members may all come from different backgrounds – Prog and Jazz, Hip-Hop and Hardcore, Thrash and Classical – but the music they make together is unquestionably, and undeniably, Death Metal, even as it refuses to be limited or defined by those two words. This album is Part 1 of a three-part series of digital EPs which will then be collected as a physical album entitled "Welcome to the New Dark Ages.” It has three songs.

“The Burning Season” is first. The opening tones and tense and ominous, and the song structure suggests a new breed of Death Metal. Technical elements notwithstanding, this is also deep and complex, yet easy for the listener to assimilate. The clean vocals are a bit of surprise as well, but they work within the structure of the song. “Buyer’s Remorse” is faster and more aggressive, and the bass work is excellent…it provides a deep end of the swimming pool to explore if you will. Again, the clean vocals are a temperance against the abysmal darkness of the music.

“Misinfodemic” closes the album, and it comes out of the gate with a thick growth of sonic boom that seems to surround the listener, and bound them from the ankles up. The gutturals are cavernous and the screams beckon your ears like a dog whistle. This is just a three-song teaser for the forthcoming album, but it has me excited. They aren’t your run of the mill Death Metal band. Indeed, as described above, they incorporate a lot of different sounds into their music. Their dexterous skills are high, and I would call this a new breed of Death Metal for the decade and beyond. The sky is the limit for this band.
