Heavier Than Metal

Canada = Metal. End of story.
OK, let's chat a little bit on this splendid private release. SKULL FIST performs asskickin' relentless Heavy Metal, and there's no reason to add 'epic', 'power', 'doom', 'speed' or anything else this time. When Heavy Metal music was born and entered its youth stage, it was this exact style roaring hard leaving no doubt about our beloved genre's aim. "Heavier Than Metal" may sound quite naïve to many Metal fans, but it's a good thing there's enough more modern/mature/experimental stuff to feed such hunger leaving space for traditional Metal aficionados to have some good time with in-your-face guitars, vintage melodies, pounding drums and flickering solos.
I know there's enough bands paying tribute to the shining 80s Metal days the last years. Most of them hail from Europe and but I can e.g. recall SAVAGE BLADE and CAULDRON catching me by surprise with their debut worx. SKULL FIST is more aggressive, but do not misjudge this word, no way. They just are faster at times, and have sharper guitar riffs not looking that much at the British Metal godfathers. OK, this does not include IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST, haha. Else, the myth of ACCEPT has left its mark upon this demonized trio, while I had the same appetite listening to "Heavier Than Metal" like I did with some of Finland-based ARMOUR's songs.
Singer Jackie Slaughter's voice is high pitched, picturing a hot young singer ready to make your ears bleed. The singing has enough melody lurking, we could add. The guitars are traditional, with enough dual leads while the bass...I do not know who the bass player is here...is standard yet appealing. The (female) drumming is another ace here; genuine while simplified and ample. The production flows easily and it's no wonder the duration is short enough with such a nice sound and good songs. I'd like more cuts to be included.
When WHITE WIZZARD came around I was impressed by their ability to honor/reproduce some of classic Metal's magic. Now, with ENFORCER, ARMOUR, CAULDRON, SAVAGE BLADE and SKULL FIST I think we're talking about the next level of serious musicianship and neat will. "Heavier Than Metal" may even make you drop a tear wondering whatever happened to traditional Metal missing from massive Press/Media campaigns...No worries, let it be. The underground form of Metal music has always been the spine creating this solid ball of rock for us to digest. SKULL FIST takes no prisoners. Five songs, five stars, five magics. Grab it while you can (a vinyl version is also out, hehe). Horns up!
