Karma To Burn - Appalachian Incantation album cover

I really don't know how to start this review. I was thinking of recording myself screaming from joy and post the mp3 file. And just after a few seconds you will understand that a review about the new KARMA TO BURN album, "Appalachian Incantation", is arid!

Most of the times I am against reunions. And that's because a move like that is taking place to earn some more money or because the solo careers are not going well and not because they really love to play music again all together. KARMA TO BURN called it quits in 2002, after three full length albums and a good name in the music industry, due to musical (?) differences. In 2009 they reformed for a tour. The tour was a success and the trio decided to go on and release a new album.

Who fucking cares why they did the reunion here? "Appalachian Incantation" is a fucking great album and those three guys are in top form. They are showing that, even if the structure of a song is made to have vocals, KARMA TO BURN doesn't give a shit and they leave the tunes the way they wrote them. I love that! They have vocals only in two songs: "Waiting On The Western World" from Daniel Davies (YEAR LONG DISASTER) and at the limited edition (2000 copies) "Two Times" with John Garcia (KYUSS, HERMANO, UNIDA) behind the microphone. The band sounds like they still have it, that they enjoy what they are doing and their boogie stoner Rock still sounds fresh. I don't think that any of their fans wants anything more than that. The producer on this album is  Brant Bjork  (KYUSS) who did a great job.

Conclusion? "Appalachian Incantation" is an album that brings KARMA TO BURN back in the frontline. Groovy, nice ideas and great songs like "45" (not that the others lack heaviness and inspiration) is an album worth buying. Now run and go get it!
