Cypher – Cypher
September 20, 2024
The music is excellent, but again, the clean vocals are just a bit pitchy. The trade-off with the harsh vocals makes perfect sense, because it provides a contrast. The Progressive elements in the shifting meter are handled expertly by the band, and this is a promising effort from the quintet.

Ascent – Gamma
August 25, 2024
The album survived a bit of a lackluster opener, and as it rolled forward, its many nuances came out of its shell. The best part of the album for me was their strong musicianship, and I found myself intrigued with it. I am looking forward to what the band can do next, because they have the necessary foundations.

Nastergal – The Untold War
June 21, 2024
Overall, you have to give props for a band that shares a singular vision on the album, as well as an uncompromising energy, and the will to dominate. These are the three things that come through strongest for me, in addition to their strong musicianship.

Sol Negate – On the Verge of Dreaming Again
March 29, 2024
Overall, this album was very well done. The composing trio mixed many elements together into a well-seasoned stew that tastes fantastic…Death Metal, Progressive elements, and some symphonic elements as well. The result is an album that fans of any of these genres will find pleasing.

Damnationis – The Fallen Princess
March 21, 2024
The symphonic elements didn’t take over the sound, but even if they did, we would be left with the music underneath, which is too simple and one-dimensional. Perhaps the oddest part of the band and album are that they a sextet from France, which is often known for its inventiveness in Metal.

Fragment Soul – Galois Paradox
March 1, 2024
A blend of dreamy melodies and tender vocals creates a sonic landscape that is both soothing and enchanting. Each track is like a musical dream, with ethereal sounds that transport listeners to a world of tranquility and beauty. The tender vocals add a heartfelt quality to the music.

Mormânt De Snagov – Invocation Through Revocation
February 14, 2024
This isn’t your ordinary Black, Death, or even MeloDeath band. They combine all of these elements and even a bit of Doom at time to tell the tale of both depression and anger. The balance that they reach between these two extremes is solid, as are the other elements they work into their sound. Keep your eye on this band from Finland.
