Officium Triste - Hortus Venenum

OFFICIUM TRISTE’s “Hortus Venenum” is an engaging example of the doom genre’s capacity for highly emotional charged music. It’s as beautiful as it is tragic, as sweltering as it is radiant. Most importantly, it is an album with a lot of care of and detail put into it from a band who shows a clear love for their craft.

Cainites - Revenant

CAINITES’s “Revenant” is an interesting melodic death album across it’s storytelling, atmospheric, presentation, and music. I actually haven’t heard a lot of melodic death albums this year outside of a few key bands but this is one of the better ones I’ve come across in this second half of 2024.

MY LAMENT’s ‘The Season Came Undone’ is one of the best surprises/discoveries for me in this second half of 2023. Any fan of old school death/melodic/Gothic doom metal will definitely need to add this to their collection.

Any fan of the more melodic side of doom will definitely need this in their collection. However, it is such a well written album that I think it will win a lot of people over, regardless of what style of metal or music they like.
