Justin "Witty City" Wittenmeier's Top 10 albums of 2024
December 11, 2024
For this year, I kept my blog limited to strickly what I have reviewed this year through either Metal Temple or my Doomed For Metal blog. I purposely tried to keep a variety of styles, although there is a little more doom considering that's my favorite genre. I purposely left big, near mainstream bands off the list as I'm here to help bring exposure to the underground.

Van Zant - Always Look Up
December 9, 2024
The lyrical content of “Always Look Up” makes it very clear about what has happened with the VAN ZANT brothers in their musical as well as family lives. They are all written and sung in plain English, without mincing words or intentions. What it boils down to is that after some 20 years of chasing their dreams they found that it was time to return to the beliefs they had before that time.

Sunstorm - Restless Fight
December 9, 2024
You would think that I have a membership for reviewing albums where Ronnie Romero is the singer. But I haven’t, it just turns out that he is singing on a lot of albums that I consider interesting.

Deadly Magic - …As Nightmares Gorged The Earth
December 9, 2024
If there is one real criticism that I can relate to when it comes to DEADLYU MAGIC it is that I feel that “…As Nightmares Gorged The Earth” is way, way too short for me. I would have loved at least 40 minutes more.
review
Axetasy - Withering Tides
December 9, 2024
This is a good Speed/Thrash Metal album. When it comes to AXETASY I can’t just name those two musical styles separate, as they are interwoven in such a way in every song that it is almost impossible to not see them as a Siamese twin.
review
Apocalypse – Pandaemonium
December 9, 2024
APOCALYPSE wants to mix Black, Death and Epic Metal and try to sound different on every album. Whether he has done that or not is not for me to say, as “Pandaemonium” is the first time I ever listened to APOCALYPSE.

Summoning the old spirits under the spells of the Shaman Witch
December 2, 2024
Since years in the past, the capital of Brazil revealed names that practice unusual (and excellent) ways into Metal genres. And the veteran MIASTHENIA is always one relevant name since the days they came with “XVI”, telling histories and old tales about Pre-Colombian civilizations of America. And with “Espíritos Rupestres”, the band gives another step ahead, using a central concept for the lyrics, and showing a new lineup. Then, we had the opportunity to talk with the band to known about the past, the present and future ambitions.

200 Stab Wounds - Piles of Festering Decomposition (Reissue)
November 27, 2024
200 STAB WOUNDS play Extremely Gore Death Metal with the vocals to match. You just have to look at the covers of their albums to know that nobody and no body is spared. This slaughterhouse experience is a sadistic butchers paradise.

Thanatos - Four Decades Of Death
November 27, 2024
I can only applaud Agonia Records for releasing “Four Decades Of Death”. Plus, we need to thank THANATOS themselves for rerecording some of their songs and adding the 2006 and 2018 demos to finish the album.

The Watcher - Out Of The Dark

This is NWOBHM based, Doom inspired Heavy Metal with enough oomph to keep your mind occupied and working for over 36 minutes.
review
Old Forest – Graveside
November 26, 2024
The album’s strength lies both in its diversity and traditionalism. Its roots go deep in the Black Metal genre, but they are also not afraid to explore, and use some unconventional approaches to songwriting. For a band that has been around since before the turn of the century, I find their music to be fresh, and vital.
