Ad Infinitum - Abyss
September 12, 2024
A fine mix between Symphonic Metal/Rock with Modern Metal influences.

Shun – Dismantle
September 11, 2024
For fans of Hard Rock, I would categorize this as such, but also with a meaner edge, and some Stoner elements. That is neither here nor there, it just helps the listener get a gauge for the music. Much of their sound is rooted in the Grunge bands of the 90’s, but they take it a step further with a snarl and with attitude.

Kryptos - Decimator
September 10, 2024
The band plays NWOTHM and has no qualms about showing where they have their infuences from. And to be frank, they are plentiful. KRYPTOS isn't exactly trying to hide where they feel the best musical knicking options are.

Shamash – Done With Misery
September 10, 2024
From KL Malaysia comes a fusion of melodic death and metalcore that is enriched with emotion and layered with dynamic elements.

Sunbomb – Light Up The Sky
September 10, 2024
As someone who grew up with LA GUNS and STRYPER in the 80’s, I don’t have any need to keep listening to them, or any future iterations of them. Don’t get me wrong, they were both excellent bands, that forged the movement back in the day, and I listened to the shit out of them. This seemed like an odd pairing from the start however, and the music supported that for me.

Legionary – Prison Realm
September 10, 2024
“Prison Realm” is like a medal with two sides: crushing and relentless Death Metal, and overly melodic Metal. Both sides do not always fit well together

The Tomb - The Valley of Despair
September 10, 2024
Italy's Death Metal scene has long nurtured bands that delve deep into the shadows of human suffering, but
THE TOMB
stands out as one of its most skilled architects of despair. Their latest album,
"The Valley of Despair"
, is a merciless plunge into darkness, seamlessly blending brutal aggression with eerie, atmospheric interludes. The band's mastery lies in their ability to fuse old-school death metal ferocity with modern intricacies, each riff and divebomb solo tearing through a desolate soundscape of torment. Complementing the music, the album’s artwork—a haunting oil painting of a valley lined with skeletal walls and a river of flesh and blood—captures the raw, visceral power of their sound. It's a grotesque reflection of the album’s journey through decay and desolation, where suffering reigns supreme and the living are but faint echoes of anguish.

Morgue - Close To Complete Darkness
September 10, 2024
MORGUE
, hailing from France, is a powerhouse within the Brutal Death Metal scene. Since their formation in the late 1990s, they have relentlessly carved a niche with their intense, guttural ferocity and technical precision. Their 2024 LP,
"Close To Complete Darkness"
, showcases the band at their bleakest, blending raw aggression with profound thematic depth, echoing existential despair. Known for crushing riffs and a meticulously crafted sound,
MORGUE
channels the visceral ferocity of early Death Metal while embracing modern Brutal Death Metal’s unyielding brutality.

WitcheR - Boszorkányszimfóniák
September 10, 2024
A collection of music such as the songs chosen for “Boszorkanyszimfoniak” have been recreated with a tasteful perfection that only WITCHER can materialise.
review
Gigan – Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus
September 10, 2024
This is far from the raw Death Metal of your parents…indeed, it is refined, sterile, and mechanical, yet it also breathes. It’s the closest thing to losing your total existence to utter madness without that final nail strike. In many ways, this is a worse way to live than in chaos…on the fringes of insanity and disease.

Nightrage - Remains Of A Dead World
September 9, 2024
What is very clear is that you wouldn't notice that they have made a lot of albums when you try to measure the amount of enthusiasm that is apparent on “Remains Of A Dead World”. NIGHTRAGE sound like a pack of very hungry wolves going out for their very first hunt of the season.

Burnt Offering – Frightmare (Demo 1985)
September 9, 2024
After a few listens i'm starting to wonder why no one picked up and signed BURNT OFFERING. In comparison with some of the releases halfway through the eighties they would have easily come through on top. Not only that, but my ears and brains are telling me that the music on “Frightmare (Demo 1985)” also has stood the test of time.

Americade – Live in New York 1982
September 9, 2024
What matters most to us as listeners is that all songs have that kind of quality that will have you take notice, will start the goose bumps coming up and make you enjoy the whole live show. All eleven songs are rather pleasing for the ears.

Castle - Evil Remains
September 9, 2024
All in all,
CASTLES
“
Evil Remains
,” is a solid occult doom album with a surprisingly catchy sound and many rifftastic moments. Any fan of doom would be doing themselves a disservice to ignore this.

Scald - Ancient Doom Metal
September 9, 2024
As I previously stated, I missed out on
SCALD
the first time they hit the scene (hey I was 13 when it came out, what do you want from me?) but I’m glad they are back and if “
Ancient Doom Metal
” is any indication of their new found prowess and energy, I hope they stay.

Thy Catafalque – XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek
September 9, 2024
“XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek” is a stunning piece of Avante-Gard Metal from Tamás Kátai and his fever dream known as THY CATAFALQUE. He stays true to his vision, bringing into the fold a world of diverse musicians. The result is like a trapdoor to nature’s own subconscious. For some, it will be a nightmare; for the devout denizens of the extreme metal underworld, a delight.

Comaniac – None For All (WormHole Death Reissue)
September 9, 2024
COMANIAC’s “None For All” has its moments. The bonus tracks, in particular, help to anchor the album to something heavier than the original nine tracks accomplish.

The Black Dahlia Murder – Servitude
September 7, 2024
Veteran bands like this who are signed to a major label often take the safer path, and that is what THE BLACK DAHLIA have done with “Servitude.” Knowing that their long-time fans were not up for much change with the new singer on board, they delivered an expected sound. I think Eschbach’s vocal performance was excellent on the album, they just need to take a few more chances.

Seeds of Mary – Love
September 6, 2024
The Alternative elements slightly outweigh the Progressive ones, but there are other more subtle things going on as well, like some Punk influence and Psychedelica. One thing that you can’t fault the band for is their grand sense of adventure. Admittedly, this album is very hard to pigeon hole, therefore it will appeal to a wide variety of music fans.
review
Umbersun – Endless Winter Nights
September 6, 2024
This was a very well put together Doom album because the band wasn’t afraid to use some instruments and styles that are not typical for the genre, like keyboards, and other backing elements. They helped to fill in the gaps that long songs tend to have every now and again, and this is a very promising effort.

Endonomos – Endonomos II – Enlightenment
September 5, 2024
This was an excellent album. The ultra-heavy soundtrack is supported at times with deep gutturals, while other times clean vocals take over, imparting a feeling of a deep depression that you might never crawl out of.

Crimson Veil – Hex
September 3, 2024
This was an excellent album that shifted often with mixed emotions...sometimes stalwart and angry, and other times sad, the two contrasting sounds kept the album alive, and the listener on their toes, because you never know what might be around the corner.

Hellpriests - Sermon
September 3, 2024
HELLPRIESTS
debut demo
"Sermon"
is a raw and unapologetic entry into the Black Metal scene, marked by a brutal sound that explores themes of blasphemy, sacrilege, and the darker aspects of human existence. This album establishes
HELLPRIESTS
as a promising new force in Black Metal, blending primal aggression with philosophical depth.

Officium Triste - Hortus Venenum
September 2, 2024
OFFICIUM TRISTE
’s “
Hortus Venenum
” is an engaging example of the doom genre’s capacity for highly emotional charged music. It’s as beautiful as it is tragic, as sweltering as it is radiant. Most importantly, it is an album with a lot of care of and detail put into it from a band who shows a clear love for their craft.

Downfall Of Mankind - Purgatory
September 2, 2024
I just thought it was a whole bunch of noise, until all of a sudden all the pieces of the puzzle feel into the right places and it all started making sense. Do I feel that DOWNFALL OF MANKIND has made a blinding album? No, I don't, but I do think they have made one that will get the afficionados of Modern Metal take stock and give them something to think about.

Flotsam And Jetsam - I Am The Weapon
September 2, 2024
One thing is for sure; when the first riffs of “A New Kind Of Hero” come through your speakers you will recognise this as being FLOTSAM & JETSAM. Once the vocals of Eric AK are added it only confirms this feat.
